SWEET POTATO CHIPS WITH GUACAMOLE

Chips get a bad rap because many store-bought chips are full of preservatives and unwanted ingredients. You can prepare delicious and natural chips at home, right in the oven! This recipe includes a lot of spices for a flavorful and flavorful chip, but feel free to leave some out. These chips will be just as delicious sprinkled with just sea salt or dipped in mouth-watering guacamole.

Sweet potatoes are an extremely nutritious food that is full of antioxidants like beta carotene, vitamins C, E and D and minerals like manganese and iron. They are also rich in potassium, which helps lower blood pressure by removing excess sodium and regulating fluid balance in the body. Sweet potatoes are an excellent anti-stress food and are known to help relax muscles, stabilize nerves and balance cognitive function.

Sweet potatoes are one of the best anti-cancer foods and can especially help prevent breast, colon, lung, skin and oral cancer. Sweet potatoes are known for being easy to digest and are very beneficial for ulcers, inflamed colon, indigestion and constipation. Sweet potatoes contain compounds called phytochelatins that can bind to heavy metals such as lead, mercury, copper and cadmium and safely remove them from the body.

Avocado is one of the most perfect foods in the world. It is easily digested and contains over 25 essential nutrients including iron, copper, magnesium and essential fatty acids that help the body function optimally. Avocado increases the body's ability to absorb nutrients, so it is a great addition to green leafy salads to ensure proper absorption of all vitamins and minerals. It is also an excellent source of glutathione, which helps strengthen the immune system, strengthen the heart, restore the nervous system and slow down the aging process. The monounsaturated fats in avocados reverse insulin resistance, which helps stabilize blood sugar levels.

Method of preparation:

Preheat the oven to 120°C. Using a grater or knife, cut the sweet potatoes into very thin slices, preferably about 1mm thick and no thicker than 2mm. Make sure they are even and thin. Bring a pot of water to the boil. Place the sweet potato pieces in the boiling water and bring to a simmer over medium heat. After 5 minutes, remove the sweet potatoes and drain the water.

Mix the sea salt , garlic powder, cumin , red pepper , chili powder and cayenne in a small bowl . Lightly coat two baking trays with coconut oil . Arrange the sweet potato slices in the trays so they do not overlap. Brush the top of the sweet potatoes lightly with more coconut oil . Sprinkle the spice mixture liberally over the washers.

Bake the sweet potatoes for 25 minutes. Remove the pans from the oven and set the now-crispy pucks aside. Return the trays back to the oven for another 5 minutes if there are still uncooked potatoes. Take them out and check if there are any unbaked washers. If necessary, bake the remaining pucks for another 3 to 5 minutes. Note that the chips may not look crispy when they come out of the oven, but they should crisp up as they cool.

Serve the sweet potato chips with guacamole or enjoy them plain! The crispness of the chips is preserved within a few hours after its preparation.

Guacamole

Ingredients:

  • 2 pcs. avocado;
  • 1/2 lemon;
  • 1 lime;
  • 1 small tomato, cut into small cubes;
  • 1/4 red onion, cut into small cubes;
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, finely chopped;
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced;
  • 1/4 jalapeño, finely chopped (optional);
  • 1/4 tsp. sea ​​salt (optional).

Method of preparation:

Mash the avocado with the lemon and lime juice in a small bowl. Stir the tomatoes, onion, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño and sea salt into the mashed avocado. Serve and enjoy the guacamole alongside sweet potato chips, along with chopped vegetables of your choice, as a salad dressing, or even over cooked vegetables if desired.

ADVICE:

* Any variety of sweet potato can be used for this recipe, but cooking times will vary slightly. This recipe works best with traditional orange-fleshed sweet potatoes.
