This hibiscus lemonade is not only refreshing but also delicious. It's the perfect drink for your next get-together, but it's also simple enough to enjoy anytime. You can freeze it into ice cubes and keep them on hand for a quick and easy hibiscus water.
Hibiscus contains a unique anthocyanin compound that gives it its characteristic red color. This compound helps regenerate the liver by cleaning mucus from cell membranes and improving the function of the organ. In addition, hibiscus supports gallbladder health and the liver's immune system.
Lemons (and limes) stimulate the production of stomach acids and bile, while improving their efficiency. Lemons and limes contain trace mineral salts that destroy harmful bacteria, molds, yeasts and fungi, protecting the liver's immune system. The calcium-rich fruits, combined with vitamin C , activate a sluggish liver, breaking down fat cells. They also cleanse the blood, improve glucose absorption and protect the pancreas.
Raw honey provides the liver with essential sugars, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. It has antimicrobial properties—antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal—that strengthen the liver’s immune system. Honey provides energy to liver cells and offers a variety of phytochemicals that support liver function.
Ingredients:
- 4 cups water, divided;
- 2 tsp dried hibiscus;
- 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice;
- 4 tablespoons raw honey.
Method of preparation:
Boil 1 cup of water in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and add the dried hibiscus. Let steep for at least 10 minutes, then strain the tea and refrigerate.
In a medium bowl, mix the remaining 3 cups of water with the lemon juice and honey until the honey is completely dissolved.
When the hibiscus tea has cooled, stir it into the lemonade base and serve.
Tips:
- If you don't have loose dried hibiscus, use hibiscus tea bags (1 bag instead of 1 tsp).
- Instead of honey, you can use maple syrup (start with 3 tablespoons and adjust to taste).
- For a stronger hibiscus lemonade, add up to 2 tablespoons of dried hibiscus.
